Condemning the attacks on Indian soldiers on the border and questioning the silence of the Union government, a large number of people took out a protest march in Kundgol town of Dharwad district on Tuesday.

After Basamma Koppad, mother of martyr, Hanumanthappa Koppad, and Kamalavva Mygari, mother of martyr, Parahuram Myageri, flagged off the protest by holding up the Tricolour, the large number of people began the protest march from Gali Maremma Temple in the town.

Led by MLA and Chief Minister’s Parliamentary Secretary C.S. Shivalli, zilla panchayat members Umesh Hebasur and Sureshgouda Patil and other Congress leaders, including Arvind Katagi, the protesters marched through the thoroughfares of the town before reaching the Tahsildar’s office.

Addressing the huge gathering, Mr. Shivalli sought answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the continued attacks on Indian soldiers. He said that Mr. Modi and his party, which came to power in the name of religion and patriotism, had done nothing to stop the attacks on the Indian border.

Mr. Shivalli said that Mr. Modi, who had made emotional speeches about soldiers’ sacrifices and patriotism, had hardly done anything for them. “Mr. Modi used to make claims about bringing back heads of 10 soldiers in retaliation to the death of one Indian soldier. Now our Prime Minister has become silent on the issue,” he said.

Mahadevi Koppad, wife of martyr, Hanumanthappa Koppad, also questioned the silence of the Union Government on the continued attacks on Indian soldiers. She said that even as soldiers never hesitate to lay down their lives for the country, the government should take steps to protect them when they were being attacked.
