Protests by parents and students against alleged discrepancies in the II Pre-University (PU) exam results continued for the second day on Wednesday outside the Department of Pre-University Education office here.
Students complained of being marked absent for exams they attended, some others about different results being displayed on various websites, and about “errors” in evaluation of their answer papers. The department received 5,168 applications for photocopies of answer scripts, 1,201 for re-evaluation and 66 for re-totalling.
Angry parents not only demanded that “errors” in the PU results be rectified, but also sought postponement of the Common Entrance Test (CET) counselling process until then, claiming that the poor results would affect students’ chances of getting seat in a good college.
Students who were marked absent for the exams were armed with their admission tickets to prove their appearance. “Shockingly, my son has been marked absent in all the exams, but the hall ticket proves his presence. This is no doubt an epitome of negligence, and we demand the board to be accountable,” said Noorulla Sharif, parent of a candidate who was marked absent.
R.H. Ritti, Joint Director (Examination), DPUE, tried pacifying the irate crowd, recommending them to have patience. But the agitators warned of taking the issue to court, and turning the protest violent, if necessary.
Helpline
With a mounting number of requests and queries for re-evaluation, photocopies and re-totalling, the Department of Pre-University Education has established a helpline to cater to parents and students. Those who need information can call 080-23083900 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., apart from approaching counters in the department office, a press release said.
