Proposal to reduce fare of city bus services

District In-charge Minister, M.B. Patil has said that a proposal would be sent to the Transport Ministry to reduce the fare of city bus services equivalent to that of rural bus service, in the interest of people.

Addressing presspersons after flagging of sixteen city buses to rural areas within twenty kilometer radius of Vijayapura at central bus stand here on Tuesday, he said that the city buses would now cover rural areas as well.

He informed that these buses would cover 17 villages and would make 222 rounds a day.

Mr. Patil said the owing to technical problems, at present, the KSRTC cannot reduce the fare, however he said that in the interest of the people, he would urge Transport Minister, Ramalinga Reddy to consider this as a special case and given concession.

The Minister said that based on the feasibility and demand, more buses would be introduced in future.

On the demand of setting up bus shelters at various junctions of the city for the commuters, he said that the suitable places would be identified and City Municipal Corporation will be instructed to set up the shelters.

He said that a proposal was before the district administration to get a city bus stand built at Fish Market of the city.

With regard to Master Plan project, Mr. Patil said that he would be holding meeting on Saturday to discuss the matter.

“We have funds to lay the road on either side where the demolition is already over. The next big task is to develop a road between Naubagh Road and Babaleshwar Circle, which would ease the traffic congestion to a great extent”, he said.

ZP President, Umesh Kolkur and officials of NEKRTC were present.
