The Goa Cabinet early this week cleared a proposal to hold evening courts, one each in north and south district, to clear pendency of court cases.

Cases pertaining to the Motor Vehicles Act, the Shops and Establishments Act, and the Negotiable Instruments Act, will be taken up in these courts, which will run for two hours from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm.

The Goa government will allocate Rs. 7.68 crore in establishing the evening courts from an amount of Rs. 15.2 crore sanctioned by the Union Law Department.

The Thirteenth Finance Commission had recommended setting up of such courts and had allocated Rs. 5,000 crore for court infrastructure and for setting up fast-track and morning and evening courts.
