A fire that broke out in a newly established business school at Unakal here destroyed property worth several lakhs of rupees.
According to sources, the fire was noticed around 9 a.m. on Tuesday at Chetan Business School, soon after which the fire brigade was alerted.
Although the fire brigade personnel immediately rushed to the spot and began efforts to douse the fire, much damage had already been done.
Using three fire tenders, the personnel were able to bring the fire under control, which ravaged the first floor of the business school.
Fifteen personnel were engaged in the operations.
According to the director of the B-school, Vishwanath Koravi, 70 computer systems, air conditioners and furniture on the first floor were gutted. He pegged the loss at around Rs. 80 lakh.
The fire brigade officials, however, clarified that they were yet to ascertain the loss. According to preliminary investigations, a short circuit was said to have caused the fire.
Chetan Business School was in its second year of establishment and had only recently moved to a new building in Unakal.
