Chikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner M.K. Sreerangaiah has issued prohibitory orders in the district in the wake of three-day Datta Jayanti beginning Thursday. The officer issued the orders as per relevant sections of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963.
The order states that the organisers of Datta Mala Abhiyana, Shobha Yatra, and the procession take permission from tahsildars and police officers.
“The organisers have to inform the officers about the time and place of their events,” it said.
The order prohibits carrying arms, cudgels, swords, knives or lathis during the procession or burning of effigies. Those participating in the events should not disturb the public, it said, adding that raising slogans targeting any particular religion is banned.
The Deputy Commissioner said those visiting Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah must maintain discipline. The events on all three days should end by 7 p.m.
The Deputy Commissioner has also prohibited the sale of liquor in the district between midnight on Wednesday and Saturday (December 22) midnight.
