Soubhagyalakshmi Sugar Factory in Gokak, owned by Congress leader Ramesh Jarkiholi whose relationship with the party is now strained, has found itself in trouble.

Deputy Commissioner S.B. Bommanahalli has set up a committee to look into grievances of farmers who had supplied sugarcane to the factory in 2014–15.

Assistant Commissioner Kavita Yogappanavar and other officers will inquire into complaints by some sugarcane suppliers that the factory has not paid them arrears for the year.

The committee that includes Agriculture and Cooperation department officials will scrutinise old records, read through the complaints by farmers and submit a report to the Deputy Commissioner. “We will send it to the State government and seek instructions about further action,” Mr. Bommanahalli said here on Saturday.
