The delay by the State government in deciding on fee structure and seat-sharing matrix for admission to professional colleges through the Common Entrance Test (CET) has irked private engineering colleges.
The Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering College Association (KUPECA) has written to the Higher Education Department seeking the government’s decision on their demand for fee hike, failing which each institution will charge fee based on the costs incurred by the management for academic year 2013-14.
The State government was supposed to take a final decision on the seat-sharing matrix and fee structure by April 10.
Panduranga Setty, secretary, KUPECA, said, “Colleges will take the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) or the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) scores and go ahead with the admission as the government does not seem to be bothered about our concerns. Each institution will charge a fee based on the costs incurred by the management per student.”
Uncertainty bothers
In the letter addressed to Rajneesh Goel, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, the private engineering college association members have said that engineering colleges are being put under pressure due to the uncertainty in the matter.
