Harsh Gupta, new Regional Commissioner of Kalaburagi division and secretary of Hyderabad Karnataka Regional Development Board (HKRDB), said that fighting historical backwardness along with addressing current developmental demands would be among his top priorities. In his interaction with presspersons at his office here on Monday, he said that HKRDB funds would be utilised for improving quality of education and healthcare services.
“We have current developmental demands in terms of expanding physical infrastructure. At the same time, we need to address the historical backwardness by improving education and healthcare sectors,” he said.
Urging people to join hands with the administration in developmental initiatives, Mr. Gupta said that owners of commercial buildings should voluntarily alter their structures for facilitating road-widening and clearing structures for giving required parking spaces. “If people come forward and demolish part of their structures for proving parking spaces, we damaging their buildings could be avoided. People’s participation would also speed up the process.”
Mr. Gupta said that all initiatives would be taken for constructing ring roads in all district headquarters in the region as mentioned in the State budget. He appealed to the people to voluntarily give their lands for the purpose so that the value of their remaining property would increase. “If the administration goes in for acquiring lands, it may take two years to complete the process. If people voluntarily give their lands, road construction work would be speeded up. With the roads coming up, the value of the lands along them would also increase.”
To a question on handling three vital posts at the same time – Regional Commissioner, Secretary of HKRDB and Principal Secretary of Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Mr. Gupta said he would soon be relieved from the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs. “Implementation of two projects – issuing ration cards and Anila Bhagya Yojana – is at the final stage and hopefully completed within 15-20 days. I will then be relived from the department,” he said.
