‘Priority to set up police stations where crime rate is high’

There is proposal to establish 30 more stations in State: DGP

Director-General and Inspector-General of Police Om Prakash has said that the while there was a proposal to establish 30 more police stations, they would be established based on priority.

He was speaking to presspersons in Dharwad on Sunday evening after a brief visit to inspect N.A. Muttanna Police Residential School.

It is his first visit to the twin cities after assuming charge as DG and IGP.

Mr. Prakash said that the Police Department had prepared a list of towns and cities in various districts that required new police stations and priority would be given to setting up police stations in places where the crime rate was high, he said.

Regarding the canteen facility extended to the State police like the defence personnel, he said that as the initiative had received good response steps were being taken to extend the police canteen facility to all the district centres in the state.

Thorough enquiry

Earlier speaking to presspersons at Hubballi Airport on his arrival from Bengaluru, Mr. Prakash said that CID would hold a thorough inquiry into the cricket betting racket in Hubballi, which was exposed through a sting operation by a Kannada news channel and action would be taken against all those involved including officials once a report was submitted.

He sought to clarify that there was no question of sparing anyone as the CID probe would throw light on all those involved in the racket. He also appealed to the media to furnish documents and evidences about involvement of officials in the racket to the investigating team. Earlier he was welcomed by Hubballi Dharwad Police Commissioner Ravindra Prasad and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) A.S. Ghori. Mr Om Prakash will hold a meeting of police officials on Monday.
