Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Principal Secretary L.K. Ateeq joined workers in dredging a lake being taken up under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in Bhootaramanahatti village in Belagavi taluk on Wednesday.
He worked for a few minutes to dig the lake-bed and carried the mud to its banks.
He spoke to workers and asked them whether they were getting the mandated wages and other benefits. He had breakfast and tea with them.
Belagavi Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer R. Ramachandran said that 323 workers were engaged in work at the site for over a month.
The officers also visited the Swachch Bharat Mission work in Bastawad village and a banana plantation in KK Koppa village. Zilla and taluk panchayat officers were present.
