May 19, 2019 12:06 am | Updated 12:06 am IST - Shivamogga

Activists of Shivamogga District Congress Committee (SDCC) staged a protest in the city on Saturday condemning the statements issued by Pragya Singh Thakur, BJP candidate for Lok Sabha election from Bhopal seat, on Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse.

Addressing the meet, H.S. Sundaresh, president, SDCC, said that displaying veneration towards a murderer was an uncivil and inhuman act. Expressing apprehension that such irresponsible remarks would send a wrong message to society, he said by praising Godse, the BJP candidate has shown disregard for the principles of peace and non-violence advocated by Gandhi.

B.A. Ramesh Hegde, general secretary, SDCC, expressed ire that BJP leaders were insulting martyrs and freedom fighters for political gains. The activists formed a human chain at Mahaveera Circle owing to which traffic was hit for some time.
