Lauding pourakarmikas working at different local governing bodies for striving to keep the environment clean, Deputy Commissioner N. Manjushree on Friday said everyone should pledge not to pollute their surroundings. She was speaking after inaugurating ‘Pourakarmikas Day’ at Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kala Mandir.

“Waste management is a major problem in society and every individual has the responsibility to keep their surroundings clean. People should support pourakarmikas and adopt proper waste management practices to prevent their surroundings from getting polluted,” she said. She added that the job of a pourakarmika is one of the most important in society. They must undergo check-ups regularly and should not neglect their health.

The DC urged the urban local bodies to provide proper facilities to sanitation workers and implement measures to improve their living conditions. Several pourakarmikas were honoured on the occasion.
