Construction and building workers led by All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) launched a postcard campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Sunday to draw attention to the economic travails plaguing commoners.

The Centre was accused of adopting a pro-corporate and anti-worker approach in its policies. The AITUC said this had resulted in the dilution of labour laws. It expressed fears that even existing social security measures were set to be diluted and this dilution of labour laws was bound to affect the working class in the country.

AITUC activists said that in Karnataka there were 20 lakh construction site workers who were availing various government benefits and this was in jeopardy as the Centre was proposing to repeal various labour codes and laws including the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996.
