Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure will be in force across Mysuru on June 5 and 6, in view of counting of votes polled for the gram panchayat elections.

The office of the Police Commissioner, Mysuru, has promulgated the ban orders from 6 a.m. on Friday to noon on Saturday as a precautionary measure, to ensure that counting at Maharaja PU College on J.L.B. Road takes place smoothly.

Precautionary measure

The orders had been issued to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order, based on an appeal from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Mysuru. In the order, Police Commissioner B. Dayananda said that victory processions, bursting of crackers in public places and in front of houses, entry of unauthorised persons into the counting centre and gathering of more than five people in a radius of 200 metres around the counting centre had been banned.

The order bars people from carrying explosive items and sharp weapons inside the counting centre, and from making inflammatory speeches and holding rallies.

Events exempted

The order does not apply for wedding ceremonies, religious events, funeral and students appearing for school/college examinations.

Meanwhile, the police have deployed tight security at the counting centre here, where ballot boxes have been kept. The fate of candidates who contested the May 31 election will be known on Friday.
