Expressing displeasure over the alleged lethargic attitude of the elected representatives, senior theatre artist Prakash Belawadi said that the legislators do not even have a road map for development of their respective constituencies.

He was speaking at the S.B. Jangamshetty Theatre Award ceremony at Visvesvaraya Bhavan here on Thursday. The event was organised by Ranga Sangama, a theatre group, for conferring the award on Sripad Bhat, a senior theatre director.

Mr. Belawadi said the elected representatives’ performance had failed to meet people’s expectations. Today, development issues have taken a back seat and politics is no longer at the service of people, but it has become a platform to explore the business of the representatives, he said.

He said that a collective effort by the legislators can focus on the development of each constituency, which would help in reducing poverty and improving living standards.
