Police shoot at, injure accused

In a scuffle between the police and the accused near the Buddh Vihar on the outskirts of Kalaburagi on Thursday morning, three police constables suffered injuries when the former tried to arrest Mohammad Mustafa who had set on fire his brother-in-law’s house in Kalaburagi last week.

Mohammad Mustafa was shot at and injured after he attacked the police with a knife, while resisting arrest.

He was admitted to the district government general hospital. The injured police constables were admitted to the Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital.

The injured police constables are Sadar Patel, Saleem and Shivaling. The police also recovered a passport and Aadhaar card from the accused.

Superintendent of Police N. Shashi Kumar visited the spot.

Mohammad Mustafa set on fire Syed Akbar’s house at Hussaini Garden locality in the city on the night of July 4.

Three members of the family, including Syed Akbar (42) and his wife, Shenaaz Begum (35), died in hospital two days after the incident.
