Renowned poet and Kannada writer K.S. Nisar Ahmed of Nityothsava fame will inaugurate this year’s Dasara celebrations atop Chamundi Hills on September 21.

This was announced by Minister for Public Works H.C. Mahadevappa on Thursday, after he received the first batch of Dasara elephants at the Mysuru Palace premises.

He said the poet had been contacted and informed of the decision of the Dasara High Powered Committee chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He added that Mr. Ahmed had agreed to do the honours. “A formal communiqué and invitation will be extended to him in due course as per tradition,” the Minister said.

The Padma Shri and Nadoja awardee joins the list of eminent personalities of Karnataka who have inaugurated the Naada Habba, including Jnanapeetha awardees Chandrashekar Kambar and Girish Karnad, Channaveera Kanavi, Baragur Ramachandrappa, seers including Siddeshwara Swamy, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, and scientist C.N.R. Rao.
