Students of the Nursing College under Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences, on Monday met the Small Scale Industries and District in-charge Minister Satish L. Jarkiholi and urged him to improve conditions in the college at the earliest.
The students, pursuing B.Sc. Nursing programme, pointed out the lack of teaching staff which led to difficulties in studying without teachers. There are 187 students pursing nursing programme but only four teachers are available at the college. Considering the students’ strength, there should be atleast 24 teachers as per the rules of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Nursing Council of India.
Despite problems being brought to the notice of the BIMS authorities, there has been no positive response. Added to the shortage of teachers, the college lacks basic amenities like absence of drinking water, library, toilets and other necessary facilities since its establishment in 2011, students said.
Mr. Jarkiholi assured the students to look into the matter immediately and try to resolve the problems and improve facilities.
