The platinum jubilee of the formation of Mandya district will be held in the second week of February. Vivek Hallegere Murthy, Surgeon-General of America, will inaugurate the programme.
The three-day celebrations will begin on February 13, Housing Minister and in-charge of the district, M.H. Ambareesh, told presspersons here on Tuesday.
The State government had allocated adequate funds for the celebrations and the district administration had already formed several committees and sub-committees for organising and monitoring various programmes, he said.
Meanwhile, the State government had planned to construct 15 lakh houses during its regime, even as 3.17 lakh houses had already been constructed during 2013-14. The government had planned to construct 3 lakh during 2014-15. It had constructed 1.61 lakh houses till the end of December, Mr. Ambareesh said.
The government would construct houses for transgenders, craftsmen, pottery makers and widows, slum-dwellers at reasonable rates across the State, he said.
