Nearly 180 photographs on display at an exhibition at Kukkarahalli lake underscored the wilderness of the waterbody that is a major lung space for the city.

Titled ‘Life in Kukkarahalli Kere’, it was unveiled near the lake on Sunday as an initiative to celebrate the biodiversity of the place. Organised by Wild Mysuru, the exhibition features photographs taken by 45 nature enthusiasts showcasing the diverse life forms supported by the ecosystem.

Lingaraj Gandhi, Registrar, University of Mysore, inaugurated the exhibition.

Kukkarahalli Kere is a recognised International Bird Area and is home to nearly 180 species of birds, and 85 species of butterflies apart from scores of insects, reptiles, mammals and plants. It attracts migratory birds and is among the most popular spots for morning walks.

However, there are concerns over the ecological fragility of the waterbody which is being disturbed by human-induced activity including development projects.

The exhibition aimed to create awareness on conserving the lake.
