Petroleum dealers in Mysuru and surrounding districts are looking forward to early popularisation of self-refuelling pumps, which is in its trial stages in New Delhi.
The issue was raised during Jagruthi-2016, a meeting of petroleum dealers of Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, and Hassan organised under the aegis of Federation of Mysore Petroleum Traders (FMPT) here on Thursday.
“Petroleum dealers are eagerly awaiting the introduction of the self-service pumps, which will give customers an option to refuel their vehicles themselves after paying through credit card,” FMPT honorary president S.K. Dinesh told The Hindu.
The self-service pumps will relieve petroleum traders from customer complaints on account of poor service by attendants. Also, petroleum dealers can be saved of labour expenses.
Issuance of bills
The compulsory issue of bill every time a motorist refuels his vehicle by petrol pumps run by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) was causing problems in a few places.
However, Mr. Dinesh said that over 80 per cent of the estimated 350 petrol stations in Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Mandya had been automated and fitted with CCTVs. “While almost all petrol stations in urban areas are automated and fitted with CCTVs, the petrol stations in rural areas are following suit,” he said.
The automated petrol stations ensure that petrol or diesel dispensed for the station is electronically recorded and monitored by officials of the public sector oil company. “This is to ensure there is no cheating. The records will confirm the amount of fuel filled into a vehicle at a particular time. Though the CCTV is not linked to the automation system, the time of a vehicle’s refuelling is recorded on the CCTV,” Mr. Dinesh added.
