A major untoward incident was averted when the police seized a pesticide container from a farmer while he was entering the venue of farmers’ protest near Belagavi’s Suvarna Vidhana Soudha on the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Legislature on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Anupam Agarwal told The Hindu that Siddaram Hachhare (27), farmer from Nilji of Raibag taluk, was found carrying the pesticide in his pocket.

The police on security recovered and seized the poisonous compound and sent the farmer to the District Government Hospital in Belagavi to rule out the possibility of the farmer consuming it before coming to the site of protest.
