‘People should not get confused about Chandrasekhar Patil’s statement’

Janata Dal (S) national president H.D. Deve Gowda has said that people should not be confused about the statement by Chandrasekhar Patil, president of the 83rd Akhila Bharata Sahitya Sammelana, on electing a secular national party in the Assembly elections.

He added that “he (Mr. Patil) might have appealed to voters to elect those who will protect the interest of the State’s language, soil and border, and everyone has a right to make such an appeal.”

Mr. Patil had appealed voters to elect a secular national party in the Assembly elections during his presidential address on the inaugural day of the literary event.

Mr. Deve Gowda, who was here on Sunday to attend a mass marriage organised by local MLA Manappa Vajjal, said that preference will be given to prominent MLAs and leaders of the party from any constituency and there will not be any problem as far as ticket distribution for the next Assembly election is concerned. “An opportunity will be given to those who want to dislodge the party’s sitting MLAs to contest in other places,” he added. When asked about Rahul Gandhi’s leadership in the Congress, Mr. Deve Gowda said that he does not want to speak on the political decisions of other parties, as everyone has the right to contest in elections. However, the Janata Dal(S), which opposed the Congress in the political arena, would continue to hold that stand even in the future, he said.

The party’s leaders will decide about Prajwal Revanna contesting elections, he said. Mr. Deve Gowda said that he was not aware about a move to induct M.P. Ravindra, son of late M.P. Prakash, into the party.
