A physical education instructor of an aided pre-university college was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a 22-year-old national-level athlete in Bangalore on Saturday.
The police had launched a massive hunt for the accused, identified as S.S. Vivekananda (55), and finally traced him to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. However, the accused returned to his village in Mandya even before the police could reach him. The police finally detained him in Mandya on Wednesday evening for questioning and arrested him on Thursday, an officer told The Hindu .
Promised her a job
The girl was a student of the same college where the accused was working for the last several years.
In her complaint the victim stated that the accused, after promising her a job, had taken her to Bangalore and rented a room in a lodge where he raped her and then left for Visakhapatnam. The girl’s relatives informed the police about the sexual assault.
The girl has filed a complaint against Vivekananda under Section 376 (rape), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code.
The victim and the accused have undergone medical examination.
