The Nagamangala police on Tuesday seized 48 bags of wheat and two bags of sugar, meant for distribution under the Public Distribution System (PDS), and arrested its driver and cleaner on the charge of illegally transporting the items.
Sub-inspector of police Siddaraju seized the truck at 2 a.m. near Mandya circle in the town, police said.
Driver Nateshbabu and cleaner Devaraju were arrested. The seizure was made following a tip-off. A case has been registered under sections of the Karnataka Essential Commodities Licensing Order, 1986, and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
