G. Parameshwara, who has been retained as the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, on Thursday resigned from the Cabinet after he was instructed by Congress high command to do so.

Mr. Parameshwara, who was also holding the Home portfolio, handed over his resignation letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The CM, who has accepted the resignation, would be submitting the letter to Governor Vajubhai Vala for acceptance.

On Wednesday, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had asked Mr. Parameshwara to quit the State cabinet and devote his time and energy in discharging responsibilities of the party president.

Gearing up for the Assembly polls due in 2018, the party restructured its state unit while accommodating all castes and sections.
