Pak national, formerly Indian, arrested for living in city illegally

A woman, who is a Pakistani national, was arrested by the police for overstaying in Bengaluru and also obtaining various IDs meant for Indian residents.

Based on a tip-off, Siddapura inspector Krishnamurthy conducted a probe and arrested her on Friday, charging her under various sections of Foreigners Act, 1946.

According to the police, the accused, Shabana Nasira, 50, was residing in Siddapura since 2010. The police said Shabana was an Indian citizen, born and brought up in Bengaluru. She married Pakistani national Noor Mohammed, in 1987, and went to Pakistan to live with him in Faisalabad. However, in February 2010, they divorced and she returned to India on a tourist visa. She had applied for a visa extension and Indian citizenship, which is pending before the authorities.

Shabana also managed to get an Aadhaar card, PAN card, voters ID, ration card, and gas connection in the name of Nasira.

She had even availed a pension certificate for senior citizens and applied for the same.
