Over 75 p.c. turnout in most taluks

The voter turnout in the gram panchayat elections held on Tuesday was 76.39 per cent in Kalaburagi district.

The highest turnout was recorded in Afzalpur taluk with 78.73 per cent, followed by Sedam with 78.27 per cent. Chitapur recorded the lowest turnout in the district with 71.67 per cent.

The turnout in Chincholli taluk was 77.82, in Jewargi it was 77.30, in Aland 75.97, and Kalaburagi 75.

The officials said more than 8.83 lakh voters out of the total electorate of 11.56 lakh had cast their votes.

Bidar

Polling percentage in the district was 76.19 per cent — with 6,86,656 of the 8,97,245 voters participating in the poll elections. The highest turnout was recorded in Aurad taluk where 82.88 per cent cast their votes. Bidar taluk registered a voter turnout of 77.14 per cent, Basava Kalyan 74.42 per cent, Bhalki 74.37 per cent, and Humnabad recorded the lowest turnout of 72.12 per cent.

Ballari, Koppal

Ballari recorded 83.67 per cent polling in the GP elections. Of the 9.30 lakh electorate, 7.78 lakh people voted, with the remaining 16.33 per cent not casting their votes despite voting being compulsory in this election.

Highest polling was recorded in Hosapete taluk at 86.20 per cent, followed by Hagari Bommanahalli with 85.56 per cent, Kudligi at 85.09, Sirguppa at 84.34, Ballari at 84.19, Hadagali at 80.73 and Sandur at 79.84 per cent.

In Koppal district, 84.31 per cent of the electorate — 1.66 lakh out of 1.97 lakh voters — exercised their franchise. Polling was held in all 38 GPs in the district.

Chitradurga

Chitradurga district recorded 85.72 per cent polling, with 8,24,454 voters exercising their franchise out of a total of 9,61,780 voters. Deputy Commissioner Srirangaiah said Molkalmuru taluk registered a polling percentage of 85.38, Challakere 87.20 per cent, Chitradurga 85.97 per cent, Hiriyur 82.86 per cent, Hosadurga 84.94 per cent, and Holalkere 87.63 per cent.

The counting would be held at respective taluk headquarters on June 5 from 8 a.m. and ample security had been provided to avoid any untoward incident, he said.

Davangere

Davangere district recorded a total of 85.87 per cent polling, with 7,95,646 of the total 9,26,544 electorate casting their votes.

Deputy Commissioner S.T. Anjankumar said in Davangere taluk 83.80 per cent votes were polled, in Harihar 86.93 per cent, in Honnalli 85.93 per cent, in Chennagiri 83.80 per cent, in Harapanhalli 86.47 per cent and in Jagalur 86.34 per cent.
