Online admissions to schools under RTE for 2015-16

The State government has decided to convert the entire process of submission of applications and admission of the students to different schools under the Right To Education (RTE) quota online with an intention to end the complaints of irregularities in the selection process.

Deputy Director of the Public Instructions (DDPI), K.G. Hanumanthappa told presspersons in Kalaburagi on Tuesday that the parents who wish to take benefits of the free admissions in the schools under the RTE quota should submit their applications online. Applications are available on: www.schooleducation.kar.nic.in.

Mr. Hanumanthappa said that the acceptance of the online applications would begin from January 18 and the last date for filing their applications was February 19. The parents with all the required documents should submit their applications online for the admission during this period.

The Education department would publish the list of the eligible children on February 26. The general public who have objections of the list of eligible children can file their objections between February 27 and March 02. The consideration of the objections would be taken up on March 04.

Mr. Hanumanthappa said that the selection process would also be online and centralised. If there were applications more than the specified number of seats in a particular seat the selection process would be based on lottery, which would also be conducted on centralised basis without the involvement of the local officials of the education department.

There were large-scale complaints about the ineligible candidates being admitted in Kalaburagi last year with the connivance of the local education department.

He said all the schools have been instructed to install a computer with internet connection to facilitate online uploading of the applications received under RTE. The parents who were not well-versed with using the computer facilities can submit their applications offline in the Block Education office, which would in turn upload their applications online.

He said that the government has also introduced few changes in the admission process under RTE this year and these changes included that in the urban areas the applicants can select the schools coming under their wards and each applicant can choose five schools and they may be allotted admissions in any one of the school. However, the applicants from the rural areas have the freedom to apply in any of the school in their taluk.

Mr. Hanumanthappa said that for the academic year 2015-16 a total number of 711 private schools have been selected for admission in the district and 25 per cent of the total enrolment of the school is reserved for applicants under the RTE. The total number of seats available under the RTE in these schools was 5,489 and of this 16 per cent would be reserved for OBC, children with disabilities, children affected by HIV, orphans and other categories, 7.5 per cent of the seats reserved for the scheduled castes and 1.5 per cent of the seats reserved for scheduled tribes.
