M. Kanagavalli, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, on Saturday directed officials to hold public awareness campaigns on measures to curb the spread of malaria and dengue and maintain cleanliness.
She was presiding over a district-level Malaria Prevention Coordination Committee meeting at the ZP Hall, here.
Ms. Kanagavalli said that Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) should give comprehensive information on prevention of malaria throughout the gram panchayats. Cases of malaria had been reported from villages such as Maravanthe and Gangolli last year.
It was essential that junior health workers conduct a door-to-door awareness campaign in these places. Proper information should also be given to residents of Ayyappa Nagar at Kukkundur village in Karkala taluk.
Taluk Health Officers should take extra measures to prevent the spread of malaria in Mala, Hebri, Hirebettu and Hiriyadka villages.
They should be in continuous touch with the gram panchayats.
A lot of building construction work was going on in Katapady village near Udupi. The officials should visit these spots and give information regarding malaria prevention both to construction workers and building contractors.
The officers of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) should take measures to see that cleanliness was maintained in hostels belonging to the Departments of Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) and Social Welfare.
Cleanliness and malaria prevention drivers should also be taken by Departments of Fisheries, Public Instruction, Women and Child Welfare, Mines and Geology in their jurisdictions, Ms. Kanagavalli said.
Premananda K., Communicable Diseases Prevention Officer, Mahendra, District Surgeon, and other departmental heads, were present.
