Officials told to solve drinking water problem

Prakashreddy Nazarapur, President of Yadgir taluk panchayat has asked the officials concerned to implement the drinking water schemes within the stipulated period and ensure that rural people are provided with potable drinking water.

Many of the members present, have alleged that many drinking water projects have not been implemented and many overhead tanks are being constructed in several villages but not functioning in Yadgir taluk in the district.

He was chairing a tri-monthly Karnataka Development Programme review meeting here in the Taluk Panchayat Office at Yadgir on Monday.

Responding to questions raised by the nominated members during the meeting, Mr Nazarapur suggested the officials to note the villages where drinking water problem is severe and solve it immediately.

Replying to Mr. Nazarapur and members, officials of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation department have said that of the seven villages, five have been provided drinking water under Anur multi-village drinking water project and added that, as many as 16 borewells drilled in the villages of Yadgir taluk, which are facing acute water shortages.

But, members immediately rebutted officials’ statement and urged Mr. Nazarapur to conduct spot inspection to ascertain the actual fact an drinking water problem.

They said Abbetumakur, Saidapur, Mundaragi, Dantawad, Shettikera, Jinakera and many villages in the taluk are still facing with drinking water problem.

Then officials assured that he would check with office records and take immediate action to provide drinking water where problem is severe and would drill borewell on priority basis.

Development works taken up under various departments, including forest, social forest, women and children welfare and health are being reviewed.
