Officers instructed to close down goshalas

October 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - CHITRADURGA:

Since some taluks in the district are receiving good rain, the officers concerned should take steps to close down goshalas as most of the farmers have taken their cattle back to farm land, Srirangaiah, Deputy Commissioner, has said.

Speaking at a meeting of district-level officers here on Wednesday to review the drought situation in the district, he informed that the Assistant Commissioner should check in detail the expenditure on the three goshalas opened in the district and the stock of fodder for cattle.

After a systematic verification, a report should be submitted to the district administration, he added. He also instructed the Veterinary Department officers to maintain ample stock of medicines to avoid the spread of diseases among animals and review the condition of animals in rural areas regularly.Since there are many government holidays in October, district and taluk-level officers should not leave the headquarters without prior permission from the higher authorities and they should be available round-the-clock to tackle emergencies. “The officers who fail to strictly adhere to the instructions will face serious action,” he warned. Since farmers in the district are suffering due to the failure of crops, the officers concerned should take immediate steps to provide crop insurance to all eligible farmers, he said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, P.N. Ravindra, Assistant Commissioner, Tippeswamy, and district-level officers were present.
