Nutritional food for anganwadis

In its resolve to address malnutrition among preschool children, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru, has brought out seven nutritional foods meant for distribution at anganwadi centres in the district.

As part of its project ‘Nutri-Food Intervention to Combat Malnutrition’, the CFTRI on Wednesday released rice-milk mix, energy food, high-protein rusk, nutri chikki with spirulina supplement, dal-based nutritional supplement for food, sesame-based nutritious supplement (sesame paste) and fortified mango fruit bar.  At a programme held during the second day of Open Days on CFTRI campus, zilla panchayat president Pushpavathi Amarnath released the products. CFTRI Director Ram Rajashekaran, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Radha, Child Development Project Officer Geetha Lakshmi and Principal Scientist P.K. Gupta were present.

The products were developed by scientists after a study done in about 12 anganwadi centres in Nanjangud taluk.
