Members of the Gulbarga Nagarika Horata Samiti staged a novel protest by planting saplings in the middle of the road, opposite the District Court Complex, in Gulbarga on Wednesday.

They were protesting the inordinate delay in completing construction of the road. The members, led by conveners K.A. Kalburgi, V.G. Desai and V. Nagammal, came in a procession carrying the saplings and raising slogans against the city corporation and the State government for the inordinate delay in completing the construction and widening of roads in the city using funds under the Chief Minister’s package for tier II cities.

They alleged that although work began more than three years ago, most of the work had not been completed. Road-users had been put to a lot of inconvenience owing to this as the roads were unmotorable, particularly during the monsoon. They also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Deputy Commissioner.
