North Karnataka stands neglected: okkuta

In view of the continued step-motherly treatment being meted out to North Karnataka by all the successive State governments hitherto, including the Janata Dal (S)-Congress coalition government, statehood for North Karnataka is inevitable, according to Gangi Reddy, president of Akhila Bharat Jana Gana Mana Okkuta and former councillor.

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Gangi Reddy said that development in North Karnataka had become a mirage and funds released for developing the backward Hyderabad-Karnatak region was not being utilised properly.

“A lot of revenue is being generated from North Karnataka and yet the region remained neglected. Therefore, let the State be divided into two and statehood declared for North Karnataka,” he reiterated.

‘BJP not interested’

He also took exception to the BJP, which had supported the division of Andhra Pradesh to form Telangana State, of not evincing interest as far as the formation of North Karnataka as a new State was concerned.

He said that he would continue the movement and appealed to like-minded people to support the cause.
