The Forensic Science Laboratory’s (FSL) report on the death of Lakshmivara Tirtha Swami of Shiroor Mutt has stated that no traces of poison of any kind or heavy metals were found in the seer’s body, according to sources in the Police Department.

The Shiroor seer had died at the Kasturba Hospital in Manipal on July 19. The press statement issued by the hospital on the day of his death said there was “suspicion of poisoning” and the toxicological samples had been sent for testing.

Lakshman Nimbargi, Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu on Wednesday that the FSL report had been received by the district police. Sources in the Police Department said the FSL report indicated that it was a natural death.

The report on the final cause of death from the hospital was expected within a couple of days.

Meanwhile, the ‘moola mutt’ of Shiroor Mutt, located at Shiroor, about 22 km from here, is still under the custody of the police. The authorities of the Sode Mutt, in charge of the Shiroor Mutt, are planning to hold the ‘Aradhane’ ritual of Shiroor seer at the ‘moola mutt’ on August 25.

“But, we will hold it on August 25 only if the police hand over the ‘moola mutt’ to us by then,” said Padigaru Vedavyasa Tantri, Dewan of Sode Mutt.
