No room for secrecy in government: SC judge

There is no room for secrecy in a responsible government as secrecy and accountability do not go together, said Supreme Court judge S. Abdul Nazeer on Saturday.

After inaugurating a workshop on ‘Adjudication process under Right to Information Act - 2005’ organised by Karnataka Information Commission in the Vidhana Soudha here, the judge said, “Citizens have the right to know about every public Act as everything done by their representatives is ultimately for the betterment of the citizenry.”

Pointing out that the right to access of information was integral to freedom of expression, he said, “Without access to information, freedom of expression could be meaningless.”

Lauding the commission for launching RTI online portal, Mr. Nazeer said it was a great achievement and would help in empowering people.
