‘No religion preaches violence’

October 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Bidar:

The Students’ Islamic Organisation held a seminar on terror-free India at R.V. Bidap Law College here on Saturday.

“All violence committed in the name of religion has not benefited Islam or any other religion. It has been a blot on humanity by taking the lives of innocents,” Labeed Shafi, State unit president, SIO, said.

“No religion preaches violence. Tolerance, peace and harmony are the basis of all religions,” he said.

“The Holy Koran has clearly announced that he who takes one life, kills the whole mankind. How can then, any organisation or individual defend terror by saying that it was sanctioned by Islam?,” he wondered. He cautioned young people to remain wary of vested interests and politicians who try to exploit the situation.

Cheap oil

Mr. Shafti suspected that global terror was linked to the desire of multi-national corporations for cheap oil. That was why Indonesia that had the largest Muslim population had no major terrorist organisations, while Syria was the hot bed of terror, he said.

Irshad Ahmed Desai, resource person, asked youth to study the Indian Constitution and actively participate in the democratic process.

R. V Dikshit, principal of the college, and Abdul Bayan, SIO local chapter president were present.
