NK gets major irrigation works

Several tank-filling projects have also been sanctioned for the region

Among the projects in the State budget on Friday, major works for North Karnataka are primarily related to irrigation.

In Badami, represented by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, a ₹300-crore Kerur Lift Irrigation Project has been sanctioned.

Some of the other projects are: 200 crore for the second phase of Nandavadagi Lift Irrigation Project, ₹210 crore for the Koppal Lift Irrigation Project, ₹250 crore for the Horthi-Revannasiddeshwara Lift Irrigation Project, and ₹75 crore for the lift irrigation project in Kampli region.

There are several tank-filling projects sanctioned: Irrigation and tank-filling projects in Basavakalyan and Bhalki taluks worth ₹75 crore; Ganekal balancing reservoir water supply project from the Krishna (₹140 crore) in Raichur; Drawing water from the Tungabhadra to Basappa Kere of Gunjalli village in Raichur (₹70 crore); Tank-filling project from the Tungabhadra to tanks in villages of Sindhnur taluk (₹50 crore); infrastructure facilities for tank filling in Ballari Rural Constituency (₹60 crore); Aladamma tank-filling project in Shirahatti taluk of Gadag (₹10 crore); Filling 23 tanks of Kagawada taluk in Belagavi (₹100 crore), and others.

This apart, ₹80 crore has been sanctioned for irrigation scheme in Bailhongal taluk of Belagavi district. The government has proposed to take up tank-improvement works in Bidar.

The government has proposed to set up quality analysis and processing units for pepper and green gram at Gadag, Haveri, Kundgol, Hubballi, and Annegeri. Dharwad has been sanctioned a mango produce processing unit. Sericulture in Haveri district is likely to get a boost with a special grant of ₹10 crore (for Haveri/Ramanagaram) for strengthening silk markets. Farmers in Dharwad district and surrounding areas are likely to be benefited with ₹6-crore special package for gherkin growers.

The government has also proposed to build a bridge across the Bhima near Kadani village of Sindagi taluk (₹30 crore); a bridge across the Tungabhadra to provide connectivity to Mantralaya Kshetra from Chikkamanchali village of Raichur taluk (₹50 crore), and a bridge-cum-barrage across the Krishna in Kallol-Yadur road in Chikkodi taluk (₹35 crore).

Healthcare

The government has sanctioned a grant of ₹4.5 crore to upgrade the Karnataka Cancer Therapy and Research Institute at Hubballi. A 300-bed hospital of Sri Jayadeva Cardiology Institute will be constructed at Kalaburagi on the office premises of the District Health Officer under Hyderabad Karnataka Development Board grant of ₹ 150 crore.

Of the five Morarji Desai Residential Schools for Girls proposed, three will be set up in Gadag, Dharwad, and Kalaburagi districts.

Under the Nagarothana Phase III, Kalaburgi and Hubballi-Dharwad will be developed with a grant of ₹150 crore each and Belagavi, Ballari, and Vijayapura have been allocated ₹ 125 crore each.
