Nephew of mayor shot dead

In a shocking incident, Fazay Mushrif, the nephew of Mayor Sajjadepeer Mushrif was shot dead, allegedly by four assailants, near Datri Masjid of the city late on Friday.

According to the police, the assailants chased 38-year-old Fayaz before shooting him at close range, pumping several bullets in his body and head.

Though he was first taken to private hospitals in the city, he was referred to Solapur owing to his critical condition. At Solapur hospital, according to sources, the doctors declared him brought dead.

No specific reason for the murder is known. However, the police and sources close to the family believe that personal enmity led to the shooting. The Mushrif family is one of the influential families of the city. Hundreds of people had gathered at the mortuary in BLDE hospital where the autopsy was performed.

Later, the body was shifted to Mushrif’s home at Haveli Galli where district in-charge Minister M.B. Patil and other VIPs visited to pay their last respects. The Gandhi Chowk police has registered the case and started an investigation, the police said.
