Mysuru varsity to fill up 150 teaching posts

February 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - MYSURU:

The Academic Council, University of Mysore, on Wednesday gave its consent for filling up 150 teaching posts that are lying vacant in various departments since many years.

The State government had earlier approved the university’s proposal to fill up the teaching posts and suggested to make appointments after following all prescribed procedures only after April 1, 2015.

The university had also requested the government’s approval for filling up the remaining 61 unfilled posts and is expecting consent for the additional 61 posts. Thus, the total number of teaching posts would be 211. The Syndicate had earlier given its sanction for appointments.

With a green signal from Council, the path is clear for appointments.

Incidentally, the university seems to be treading cautiously over the appointments as the previous recruitments had run into controversy and the same was inquired into by a one-man commission.

Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa, who chaired the meeting, said 150 teaching posts would be distributed to the departments where there was requirement of teachers.

61 other posts

Also, 61 additional posts for which an approval is expected, would be distributed according to vacancies which are not covered in the above 150 posts.

“The appointments would be made transparent,” he said.

Some members told the meeting that the vacant posts in many departments had affected teaching. To this, Mr. Rangappa said the university has struggled to get the government’s nod for the appointments and the faculty problems would be solved shortly.

With the Syndicate and Academic Council approving appointments, the actual distribution of vacancies to various reserved categories will be submitted to the Department of Social Welfare for its approval before they are advertised.

Prof. Rangappa said the advertisement inviting applications from the candidates will be invited only after ascertaining that the procedures followed were accurate.
