Mysuru is aiming for a Guinness world record on International Yoga Day on June 21 by holding the largest yoga demonstration at one place.
As many as 60,000 enthusiasts are expected to perform yoga in and around the Mysuru palace for the record-breaking feat.
The International Yoga Day Committee, Mysuru, is hoping to break the record achieved in New Delhi during yoga day last year where 35,985 enthusiasts took part, according to organisers.
On the palace premises alone, about 12,500 people are expected to demonstrate yoga. Key areas surrounding the palace in the central business district (CBD) have been identified for the mammoth show.
Departments of Tourism, AYUSH and Nehru Yuva Kendra have jointly organised the yoga day in association with various organisations, including yoga schools.
Being the country’s major yoga hub, Mysuru has more than 150 yoga schools. Thirteen yoga clusters have been identified where enthusiasts will be holding yoga sessions simultaneously from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
If everything goes according to the plans of the yoga committee, 57,100 yoga enthusiasts will be holding the demonstration at 13 clusters across the city.
Deputy Director of Tourism Janardhan H.P. told The Hindu that school and college students were expected to turn out in big numbers. A large number of students who are associated with various yoga schools and studios across the city have already confirmed their participation, he added.
“IT companies, including Infosys Mysuru campus, have confirmed participation of some of its employees,” Mr. Janardhan added.
