The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has begun collecting relief material at the Town Hall for the victims in rain-battered Kodagu.

The MCC on Friday constituted a team of officials, including health officer Nagaraju and environmental engineer Maithri, to oversee the initiative. “People can donate non-perishable food items, emergency medicine, blankets, clothes, torches, and packaging items, among other things,” said Dr. Nagaraju. “We have set up a centre at Town Hall to make it easier for people to find a place to hand over relief material. As and when enough material is collected, we will dispatch them to Kodagu in MCC vehicles,” Dr. Nagaraju added.

In a statement here on Friday, MCC Commissioner K.H. Jagadeesh said the MCC team at Town Hall has been asked to accept relief material collected from different organisations and issue acknowledgements before dispatch. More details on relief material can be obtained from the MCC control room (94498 41195 and 0821-2418800).

The Kodava Samaj, which is also collecting relief material, has set up a collection centre on its premises in Vijayanagar in Mysuru, in addition to the one in Kodava Samaj in Vasanthnagar in Bengaluru.

It is collecting food items such as milk powder, milk packets, bread, noodles, biscuit, rusk, and water bottles, besides clothes, towels, bedsheets, and blankets. The basic medicines being collected include paracetamol tablets, cough syrups, ORS, tablets for gastric problems, and first aid kits. Sanitary items such as soap, toothpaste, brush, and sanitary napkins are also being collected.

Other items such as torches, matchboxes, candles, mosquito repellents, and floor and toilet cleaners will also be accepted.

People interested in donating to the Kodava Samaj may contact Malchira Ponnappa on 98441 38873 or Chendanda Shammi on 99459 99366.

Meanwhile, Mysuru Memes, which promotes Mysuru through social media, is not only creating awareness on the floods but has also started collecting dry ration and clothes to support Kodagu in its hour of need. “We are also the digital partners of Citizen Forum for Flood Relief in Kodagu,” said Ravi Keerthi of Mysuru Memes.
