The Internal Security Division (ISD) of the Karnataka police doesn’t seem to have taken a call on deploying Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) personnel at Mysuru airport. Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep has made a fresh appeal to the Director-General of Police, ISD, to do so at the earliest.
Mr. Randeep, who is also the chairman of the Aerodrome Committee, said the issue of deployment of KSISF personnel on airport duty was discussed at the committee meeting last month and it was decided to again request deployment at the earliest. “Non-deployment of such forces will seriously compromise security at the airport,” he has said in a letter to the DGP.
Regular-schedule flight operations under UDAN commenced at the airport on September 20 last year.
Mr. Randeep also said that the posting of one ACP-rank officer having sole jurisdiction of the airport and its vital installations was proposed in August, but this too is pending consideration. In a letter to the Commissioner of Police of Mysuru, the DC has said the proposal was made prior to the launch of UDAN operations.
KSISF personnel are already deployed in Hubballi and Belagavi for airport security.
Mr. Randeep also stated that it had come to his notice that the inspector of Airport Security Unit (APSU) in charge of airport security had been transferred and no regular officer with jurisdiction or power was since posted at the airport. An officer with dual charge is not available even during regular flight operations. This is a serious security concern, he said, suggesting that till an ACP-rank officer is deployed on a permanent basis, an inspector be detailed largely for airport security duty.
