Forty-six sugar factories across the State owe a total of Rs. 881 crore to farmers who supplied sugarcane to them during the 2014-15 crushing season, Minister for Cooperation and Sugar H.S. Mahadeva Prasad has said.
Mr. Prasad visited the State-run Mysore Sugar Company Ltd., here on Thursday and inspected the ongoing overhauling work there. .
Later, Mr. Prasad told presspersons that the State government had instructed the sugar factories to clear the dues to farmers. The sugar units had sought a soft loan of Rs. 600 crore from the Union government and they would clear the farmers’ dues with the soft loan, he said.Mr. Prasad, who is also the chairman of Mysore Sugar Company Ltd., said that the government would complete the repair work of boiler, power generation (cogeneration) unit and other machines by the end of November.
He conducted a meeting with the workers and management members of the sugar unit. Meanwhile, the ‘Mysugar Ulisi Horata Samiti’ members met the Minister and urged him to revive the unit immediately.Mandya Deputy Commissioner M.N. Ajay Nagabhushanand others were present.
