Mysore–Sultan Bathery rail line sought

November 29, 2013 10:25 am | Updated 10:25 am IST - MYSORE:

Members of the chambers of commerce and industry of Mysore and Wayanad held an interactive session here on Thursday to press for the Mysore–Sultan Bathery railway line to give a boost to tourism and industry in Karnataka and Kerala.

The interactive session was organised by the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in association with the Wayanad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Wayanad Niligiris Railway Action Committee. Members submitted a memorandum to A.H. Vishwanath, Mysore MP, in this regard.

The stakeholders pointed out that it was a long-pending demand and the railway line had been under consideration since the 1880s. A survey of Nanjangud–Sultan Bathery–Nilambur line was taken up in 2004.

The railway line would give a boost to tourism and other ancillary industries of Mysore and generate additional employment, the memorandum said.
