The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has ceased to involve itself in town planning and urban development, but has become a facilitator for private developers to the detriment of the city, according to stakeholders here.
While MUDA approved only 13 private layouts in the city during 1980-89, this number increased to 56 during 1990-99. But the MUDA approved as many as 342 private layouts during 2000-2009 and what is shocking is during 2010-14, it approved 706 such layouts.
These figures were obtained under the RTI Act by MGP, which said that some of the existing private layouts have not been provided with water connection till date by the MUDA.
The implications of proliferation of private layouts were not reflected in the Mysuru Master Plan 2031, according to the MGP, which said these issues will have a bearing on the future of the city.
