MU inks pact with Japanese institute

Mangalore University's Centre for Advanced Research in Environmental Radioactivity (CARER) recently signed a memorandum of understanding with National Institute of Radiological Sciences, Japan, for research collaboration on various aspects of radiation protection and radio-ecology.

A release from the university here said the MoU with the institute particularly provides for research on Randon and Thoron studies.

The MoU provides for exchange of researchers and students between CARER and the institute. The faculty/scientist of CARER would also collaborate with the institute on radio-ecology and radiation protection. CARER coordinator N. Karunakara and institute’s Janik Miroslaw from its Radiation Measurement Research Team would coordinate the research programmes and the activities under the MoU. CARER was established by Mangalore University as a national facility through financial support from the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India and technical support from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. It is the most advanced laboratory/centre for radio-ecological and radiation protection research in the country.

The centre is engaged in front-line research on radio-ecology and environmental radioactivity in collaboration with BRNS, BARC, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL), the release said. Accredited by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, the centre has users from nearly 30 different institutions in the country and serves the research needs of various research groups from national laboratories, institutions and universities.
