Member of Parliament G.S. Basavaraju has demanded that the Chief Minister go to the rescue of farmers before they commit suicide in the face of drought in Tumkur district.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Basavaraju said that farmers are in deep trouble as coconut, arecanut and other crops are withering due to drought in many areas in the State, including Tumkur district.

He said that he has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to give compensation to farmers whose crops have dried up.

Mr. Basavaraju said that farmers in the State are suffering due to drought for the past two years and the Chief Minister should waive interest on loans taken by them.
